The Final Countdown

At long last, It’s finally in sight. The start of the mountain biking season is here at long last! Our first local opening has happened already, as Wolverine has opened their trails last week, marking the first trails open for the year. Following that up, Miners Park is having a grand opening this Friday, May 3rd, complete with ribbon cutting, riding, and celebrations downtown at Cold Iron. Copper peak and Winman still do not have dates set for their opening days, but have been working hard to prepare the trails to be open early in May, so stay tuned for those!

Of course, mother nature still isn’t giving up without a fight. The past few days have been windy and rainy, which is going to help make up for a lack of snowmelt and help to make the forests green again, but does come with the downside of making the trails damp and harder to ride. The forecast does look like this rainy weather is going to keep up for the time being too, having a few days of showers in the forecast. At the very least, it is supposed to remain warm, hovering around 55-60 Degrees for the foreseeable future.

Season Starting Tips

Now with the start of the season coming up, it’s the final time for the reminders and checklists to prepare for the season ahead. So, here’s the official Hobby Wheel season starter checklist!

1.       Dust off that bike! The worst thing that can happen is pulling your bike out the day before your first ride, and finding out it doesn’t shift right. Make sure your tires hold air and the brakes and shifting work perfect!

2.       Check up the helmet! Helmets can wear down over time, especially after crashes. Check for wear spots, cracks, and wear before going out and tackling the trails!

3.       Contact Points! Comfort is important on a bike, nobody wants to ride a bike that is uncomfortable! Make sure your Grips, Pedals, and saddle are all not worn out and are comfortable to your needs!

4.       The ‘Just-in-Case’ essentials! Nothing is worse than getting a flat tire and having to walk back to the trailhead. Make sure your carry alongs are all ready and not gonna leave you walking!

This list is just covering the basics, but are all good things to prepare for the upcoming season. If you have any season starter questions, you can stop in and ask, and one of us here at Hobby Wheel will be able to point you in the right direction!

Check-In With the Shop

This part of the year is as busy as ever, and bike tunes and work are plentiful! If you need work on your bike, anything from a yearly checkover to shifting adjustments, to even a complete refresh of your ride, the best time to stop in is now!

That’s all for this week! Sadly, even with Sea Otter happening last week, there isn’t any news from our brands. But, the hype for biking season is real, so get ready to ride!

Happy Adventuring,

-Peter
